Where in Delaware, or some-where close, can I buy or adopt a Great Dane?

medical supplies
Amanda asked:

I live in New castle D.E and a Great Dane is my Dream dog (I know what it takes to take care of them and how much supplies and medical can cost). (I’m 15 ,working to be a vet) and I want to know where I can buy or adopt one for a pet not a show dog or something like that, if anyone can help that would be great.

I would go to and type the breed you are looking for under your area code. You may find one who is looking for a forever loving home! bluebettalady

    I live in Delaware too!

You could try the classifieds section of the News Journal. That, or try the Humane Society or SPCA. Although, now they take all dogs to the SPCA in Kent or Sussex county. You may also be able to look up online about Great Dane rescues or a breeder. Good luck! anewfoundglory1787

Here is a link to regional Great Dane Clubs. Select the closest one and they will be able to direct you to reputable breeders and breed rescue in your area. Thanks for considering a slightly used dog! marci452

try petfinder.com , enter your postal code (or for you i guess your ZIP code lol). you can just search specifically for great dane in your area or search for shelter and welfare groups that have great danes availible for adoption. most (at least the ones i’ve seen) of the pets on petfinder usually have been spayed/ neutered , got their shots or been house trained. i deffinantly dont recomend getting one from a petstore, they are more expensive,(usually) less healthy and from puppy mills so they might be less social. breeders are a better option but i deffinantly recomend adopting one. Accepting the responsiblity of getting a dog is a huge commitment. Congratz on aspiring to be a vet, but that is also a huge time commitment and this means you will have little time to care for your dog.

Great Dane’s are a great companion, but be warned of possible medical problems. Because of their size, they need alot of room. Also, they don’t do stairs well.

If you are still committed to adding one to your family who will likely share the responsiblity you can try locating one to adopt at petfinder.com.
See below links for Great Dane rescue in mid atlantic area and breeders. yarmiah

Great Danes really live up to their name. they are a HUGE pain if you have a really nice yard/garden. But they are very funny. I found a breeder online, but not in Delaware. yellow_with_nachos
