What possible medical condition could a sore throat for more than 2 days and a severe headache indicate?
On the back of my Contac medication, it states anyone with a sore throat for more than 2 days accompanied by a headache should seek a doctor’s care. What “medical condition” would these symptoms indicate?

Strep throat, for which you need antibiotics. Or some other infection. If you have a flu you may have the sore throat and headache longer than two days. Susan M

In most cases, nothing spectacular and nothing more serious than a viral infection. The company puts that on the package to cover themselves, and the result is just worried people. If you had a viral infection, you could easily have both a sore throat and headache that lasted more than two days. You could also have strep throat, which would need antibiotics. There are multiple reasons you could have both a sore throat and headache, most of which are not life threats but which would benefit from being treated by a doctor. But honestly, the reason for the warning is just to cut down on lawsuits. It’s not out of concern for your health. The mom
