In 2003, almost one in four doctors practicing in the United States, or about 180,000 physicians, graduated from medical school in another country.

Yes the US and other (1st world countries) should train their own doctors. However there are a few reasons why this doesn't happen.

The US runs on making money - it's expensive to train in Medicine in the states.

Poor people want to be wealthier and if they can get paid lots of money in a 1st world country and support 20 friends and relatives back home, how can you argue against that.

It's complex isn't it.

I'm an Aussie who went offshore to train and now Oz are trying to prevent me practicing at home. And they say we are desperate for doctors ! Go figure.
