The problem in these areas is much more deeply rooted and harder to solve than what force of arms alone can solve. Keep in mind that I say Alone. If a people want freedom, they have to rise up and take it from their oppressors. History is full of countries and peoples who have done this time and time again, and those are the people we admire (George Washington, William Wallace, etc).

The other problem arises in what happened with the Mujaheddin (i think that spelling is off), in Afghanistan in the 80s. The Freedom fighters there handed the Soviets butts to them (after Significant losses of their own), and then flipped and became what we know them as today.

However, the old saying goes, "Knowledge is half the battle, but the other half is action." So, if a people truley earnestly desire freedom, peace and security (and a note to all the Hippies, Guns and Superior firepower are the only way to get them), they should have at least the opportunity to try for it.

Basically its a gamble that will result in a great society or an evil one (Taliban).

However, I think that such an organization would violate a dozen International treaties.

You'd have a whole lot more uneducated, illiterate people shooting each other.
Just like you.

The reason violence is not the answer is b/c if you gave these people guns, some of the opressed would eventually become oppressors.

Also, this isn't a very good markting idea in the sense that people can justify give food and shelter as they are required for life. Saftey is required by life but guns don't always = saftey whereas food= no hunger. There could be a safe society w/o guns but not a society at all if no food and shelter. People don't want to donante money to something they don't know will directly help them and could be confiscated and turned aginst the locals. I see where your coming from but I don't see this as a viable NPO.
