I work for a company that doesnt supply any of this. So I need to come up with this on my own, hence the inexpensive part. I am a husband & father of 3 so I would like to make sure they are well taken care of just incase. I would also like a good insurance for us.

My mom has used a Durable Med company to supply her CPAP machine/supplies for several years. The company had billing problems, and figured out they had not been billing insurance company for several years. Now, they are telling my Mom that she is responsible for over $1000; they never sent her any bills or statements, and are unable to provide such now. They told her that it is not their responsibility to bill the insurance company. Can they legitimately bill her (first notice) several years after service was performed?

Please break it down into these categories:
1. prenatal
2. L&D
3. postnatal
4. “baby stuff” (non medical supplies from clothes to bottles to car seats to maternity wear)

Assume normal delivery.

Don’t factor in loss of work as I’m already a stay at home fiance.

Please tell me which state and year these figures are for.
Please tell me if your figures are for a small “never heard of it” town or a large city like Philly, NYC, Seattle, etc.
I would like to know the “naked” figures, that is, without insurance. If any of you have the complete figures for with and without insurance, i’ll take it, to see the difference.
If any of you have recommendations for maternity insurance, i’ll take that, too. (All i’ve found so far requires a 9 month waiting period!)

I’ll take any additional info!

Thanks so much!

superveggiegirl asked:

I see this often where someone buys an item at a medical supply company and is told it will be covered by insurance. Later, they receive a bill because it was not covered after all. Is it the patient’s responsibility to verify coverage with the insurance company prior to purchase or the responsibility of the seller not to falsely represent coverage in the first place?

What reason would a hospital have for keeping a baby for 4 days with these symptoms?

hospital
psymom asked:

The baby’s only symptoms were 102 degree fever and fussiness/not able to sleep. She is one month old. Also, they are running all sorts of tests with her–blood, urine (standard, I know) and they also did a spinal tap. Now, I would like to think that the hospital is just being very very thorough. HOWEVER–my cynical/realistic side is saying, there is something going on here. It’s not like the hospital is going to get a bunch of insurance money–the mother (and baby) have a medical card. Anyone else think this is weird?
Keep in mind that I am “just” the nana. I can’t ask the nurses questions. My son and his girlfriend say that that is just their policy to keep them there for that long. They do want to see if she has meningitis, but she does not have symptoms of meningitis except the fever. There is no vomiting, no photophobia, no stiff neck. I find it odd that when my baby niece had a fever, they did not hospitalize her. I don’t think I’m being paranoid–I only think it is strange.
