Need to personally sponsor a child in a depressed country?

medical supply
Sarah asked:

I work in an emergency room, and the ER wants to sponsor a child in poverty. The only thing is that we don’t want to do it through a company such as the Christian Children’s Fund, since they don’t allow us to directly send them things. (We want to directly send them shoes, clothes, medical supplies, etc)

Does anyone know of an organization that would give such flexibility and direct communication?

For the safety and privacy of the families, this simply isn’t possible. I think Christian Children’s Fund is your best, and most reliable bet. There are too many laws that make such things difficult.

Unless you join the Peace Corps, you are not likely to have direct contact.

I am so glad to read something this positive on here but I think maybe if you called the military base and asked them exactly how you asked us I am sure they could tell you but i think the military do stuff like that all the time esp all the big disasters so i think they will definitely help you

um this is what we’d all like but unfortunately you would be causing them more harm:( im sorry…. but in those kinds of places.. when one child gets more than another you can even cause their death:( Christian childrens fund knows what they are doing! they do not leave other children out, im so sorry..it was a good thought though! but its just not like”here” if in a ghetto in america lots of people got shot and killed for their tennis shoes or their coat… well you get the idea. you have to KNOW the culture first! even sending a DOLL for example (if it was a girl) can get her into severe troubles!!! the people who work for these places you shun work there FIRST HAND..they KNOW what to do and what not to do! sending medical supplies to one child and not to others just WONT work.
