Need information about portable oxygen machines?

Diana A asked:

My mom is using oxygen tank at home and portable oxygen machine (about 9 pounds) when she is going out. She saw in the medical office the person used very small oxygen machine, much smaller then she had. We asked our medical supply provider and I searched the internet but we didn’t find anything about this small machine. Maybe someone knows this supply and give us the information?
Neither doctor nor supply spec know about the small oxygent machine my mom saw.

Talk to your mother pulmonologist and or dme provider. That person may have had liquid oxygen or been using what is called a conserving devise. A conserver is not for everyone. Instead of the oxygen running continuously, it only pulses or doses the oxygen when you inhale. It can be set for every breath, every other, every fourth. So if a big tanks last 4 hours, a small tank will do the same because it is not constant. Usually they need to make sure that the person is getting enough oxygen so they will hook up a pulse ox on the finger and have the patient try the conserver for a few hours and make sure the oxygen saturation stays above 90. There is a small sound that the puff of air makes and for some people this drives them nuts. Most people get use to it and they do not hear it after awhile. Hope this helps
