My family goes on proselytizing missionary trips to Guatemala. Is this a safe country to bring a 12 year old?

They bring medical supplies and simple tools for people in need, which is great but they are bringing their 12 year old little girl. Is this a safe country or an unsafe country in turmoil?

I assume they are going to the rural areas, if they are then they shopuld be ok and it will be safe to bring the 12 y/o girl. The dangerous part of Guatemala is the city and the places near tyhe border of El Salvador, Honduras and specially Mexico.

Cool place i travel there every now and then. It’s pretty safe but it depends pretty much the area you are visiting. The city is cool but sometimes and the departments (area divisions) tend to be kinda unsafe sometimes.

My rating: 7 out of 10. El salvador and Honduras are even worse.

I think it is safe. I have taken my 2 year old daughter there. You just have to be aware of your surroundings as you do when you travel to any country. It will be a wonderful experience for a 12 year old. My daughter and I will be going back in October and we stay in Guatemala City.

My country is a safe country to visit, but remember, as any country you must never leave alone your kids, you better choose a taxi cab, avoid the public transport as much as you can, in rural areas is even safer. and your relatives will be even better if they are involved with local people, they always protect their people and the people is with them.
