Is there a difference between a knee stabilizer and an immobilizer?

Karterius asked:

I dislocated my knee today, but my doctor was all out of knee immobilizers, and every medical supply place is closed. Is there a difference between a knee immobilizer and a stabilizer?

Yes. An immobilizer completely immobilizes the knee. A stabilizer allows you to bend the knee, but has a support on either side of the knee (looks like a hinge). If you can’t find an immobilizer, a stabilizer is better than nothing. You may get an ACE wrap, wrap your knee, then put a stabilizer on it. That will at least minimize movement. If your doc said you need an immobilizer, I would get one as soon as possible. Good luck!
