I don't think you would find a high percentage of the population unless they have had an experience warranting out of fear to support suppling necessary items.

It is not even close to the type of atmosphere of the 50's when they were building underground defense quarters against the threat of an atomic bomb.

I believe there is too much complacency in our people today and other things in their daily duties to worry about and the difference in technology today keeps their mind off such things.

In my 71 years I have seen the greatest change in our society in the history of our country.

When I was a child we had a radio, a party line phone if you weren't out in the boondocks and of course electricity and a motor vehicle if you could afford one.

I think that it depends on where you live and how you where raised. If you live somewhere that is secluded or gets cut off from civilization in the winter, you are more likely to already have a stockpile of food, water, and other essentials on hand. For those like me that live in the city, you are less likely to have these things because of the convenience of going down to the corner. Personally, I have enough to live on till I can go shopping again. If I were to get cut off at the end of the budget cycle, I might have a problem. But I really don't see a need to be prepared for some disaster that might happen. If it happens, I'll deal with it then.

During hurricane season along the coast, you bet we are prepared with extra food, water , medical supplies.... etc. But, for a terrorist attack.... how would those items help if gas is filling the air around you. No... for a terrorist attack, the majority of the people do not know how to prepare for that. but we just might find out.
