Joseph asked: I need to know the name/number of the year-end statement that medical insurers provide for reporting medical expenses for tax purposes. I don’t know if my provider automatically sends time out via snail mail, or just makes them available online and I need to know the form to find out.
The insurance provider I had last year (I’ve switched jobs since) provided a statement outlining everything we paid out of pocket. Maybe it was specific to them and I assumed it was a tax form.

red_grad asked: We are looking into life insurance. I am wondering what the medical exam and questions are like? How much more typically is it if you have a medical issue (like high blood pressure) compared to if you have good health? We are in our late 20’s.
I forgot to add, do they only ask your current health for the last 6 months to a year? Or is it your whole health history? I ask because let’s say the high blood pressure has been normal for the last 6 months to a year… will they still consider this in their pricing?

El Charro asked: I’m currently on my parent’s insurance, but my parents said they will stop paying for my insurance starting January so I will need to pay for my own medical stuff. How much does it cost to get an eye examination at the eye doctor to get contacts/glasses. and how much does it cost to get one year supply of contacts. how much would it cost me if I have ZERO insurance or welfare?

Say I use my insurance card to get a check up or buy medical supplies, do the insurance company keep records of what I do with my card and can people like my family access that information?

lifeinheavenforeever asked:
my social worker wants me to quit my medicare managed plan which is blue cross blue shield.
its just that its impossible to get a standing wheelchair approved.
yea, I’m paralyzed from the waist down.
My medicaid social worker spoke to a medical supply store that said it would accept straight medicare for a wheelchair.
I asked him about a standing one and he didn’t understand what I meant but he assured me if its on the market he can get it for me.
the problem is medicare pays 80% and blue cross pays 100% for my durable medical supplies.
the dilemma:
Is it cheaper paying 20% and deductible with medicare or quarterly payments with blue cross of 172.00
my monthly bill for durable medical supplies is as follows:
10.90 for night drainage bags
35 condom catheters 42.35
extension tube 1.89
skin prep 7.50
leg bags at 15.76
medical supply company and social worker don’t know how much
its just that beside the 20% copay with medicare I also have a deductible for medical supplies that must be met before it I only have to pay 20%
i called up medicare and medicare can’t give me a estimate either

andrea g asked:
My mom has used a Durable Med company to supply her CPAP machine/supplies for several years. The company had billing problems, and figured out they had not been billing insurance company for several years. Now, they are telling my Mom that she is responsible for over $1000; they never sent her any bills or statements, and are unable to provide such now. They told her that it is not their responsibility to bill the insurance company. Can they legitimately bill her (first notice) several years after service was performed?

carivera2000 asked:
I am more inconvenienced by the time it takes to go to the doctor’s office, getting auto estimates, trips to physical therapy, and looking around for medical supplies for my pain. I could have used this time to be with family, work on my business, or teach adjunct at a local college. How do I quantify this ($) when making a claim? I am on summer break (teacher) so it did not affect wages.

dalesutaria asked: I’m a newbie to Medicare and how exactly it works. Are only medical providers like hospitals or medical suppliers reimbursed, or are patients ever directly reimbursed by Medicare if they provide an itemized receipt for medical supplies that are covered?
Can anyone recommend a guide/website/book to learn more about this?
