A plane drops a hamper of medical supplies from a height of 4870m during a practice run over the ocean?

medical supply
mira s asked:

The plane’s horizontal velocity was 101m/s at the instant the hamper was dropped. The accelearation of gravity is 9.8m/s/s. What is the magnitude of the overall velocity of the hamper at the instant it strikes the surface of the ocean? Answer in units of m/s.

  1. Dr Spock Says:

    v^2 = u^2 + 2ad, therefore

    v^2 = [101^2 + 2*(- 9.8)*(- 4870)]m^2/s^2 = 105653m^2/s^2.

    so that v = 325.04…m/s.

    Live long and prosper.
